How to Remove Gel with Acetone

Gel nails are currently one of the recurring trends in the beauty industry. Skilfully made nail extensions can be a very natural way to give your hands an aesthetic look. However, it should be remembered that removing gels requires as much skill and knowledge as applying them. In this article, we'll show you how to do that.

Removal of gels at home - how to prepare for it?

The nail grows steadily, with an average speed of about 1 mm per week. The gel on the nails is very durable, so you will most likely want to take it off due to the regrowth of several millimetres, which will no longer look aesthetically pleasing. The regularity of this minor treatment depends on individual taste and the nail growth rate, which is not the same for everyone. If you cannot visit a beauty salon, removing gel nails at home is very feasible. When starting this procedure, yourself, all you need to do is use the appropriate materials and take care not to strain the nail plate too much. There are at least two ways of removing gel manicure and each one has a slightly different method.

Step-by-step guide of the gel with acetone

Applying the gel is impossible to do at home without specialised equipment and quite a lot of experience but removing the gels from the nails is very easy and you can easily try to do it yourself. After 3 to 4 weeks, the nails may be more prone to breakage or delamination. This is especially common in the case of very long nails, so you need to act even more delicately and with sensitivity. This may come as a surprise to many, but gels at home are not much different than in a beauty salon with a qualified and experienced person. The most important rule is never to try to force the nail to break. This can significantly damage the plate for a very long time. To correct and smoothly remove gels at home, you will need a file and acetone (or remover).

As we mentioned, there are two methods of removing the gel from your nails. In both cases, you will need a sharp, coarse-grained file, as well as acetone, cotton balls and oil. Some people also benefit from a wooden cuticle stick that removes polish residues. In a beauty salon, you can meet a method that involves filing the gel with a professional nail drill machine. We can also use this device ourselves at home if we master the correct removal of the product with its help. Pressing the nail drill bit too hard against the nail plate may cause its long-term damage.

On the other hand, for women who decide to remove the gel from their nails on a free weekend, they can skip the stage of using the nail drill and go straight to soaking off in acetone. The nails should stay in this solution until the whole thing softens. After 15-20 minutes, slowly and gently remove the gel with a wooden cuticle stick or metal pusher. When the whole thing is gone, it is enough to polish the nails nicely to make them look even better and nicer. The next step will be to apply a strengthening varnish or conditioner. We should also use it during a break from a lamp-cured manicure.
