Jelly shades carry into autumn. The finish stays; the palette shifts. A jelly finish is semi-transparent, so the light and the natural nail underneath are part of the result.

In summer that reads fresh. In autumn the same translucency can feel warmer and deeper, especially in berry, toffee, honey and cherry tones. Semilac now has jelly and Jelly Gloss options across several colour families, so the finish can move well beyond summer.

One bottle, different depths

One coat

A tinted, see-through wash

Two coats

More colour with translucency

Three coats

More depth, still sheer by design

The five autumn directions

1. Cherry-chocolate and deep berry

Semilac 738 Cherry Choco Jelly Gloss, semi-transparent cherry and chocolate brown magnetic gel polish

738 Cherry Choco Jelly Gloss

Deep cherry and chocolate brown, Jelly Gloss Cat Eye

738 Cherry Choco Jelly Gloss brings together deep cherry and chocolate brown in a semi-transparent magnetic finish. For a cooler direction, 982 Jelly Blueberry moves the same sheer idea towards blue-purple tones.

2. Toffee and warm brown-orange

Semilac 734 Toffee Jelly Gloss, warm rusty red brown orange magnetic gel polish

734 Toffee Jelly Gloss

Warm rusty red with brown and orange tones

Warm brown-orange is an easy September shift when you want more depth without moving straight into an opaque chocolate shade. The Jelly Gloss finish adds a magnetic glow while keeping the colour semi-transparent.

3. Amber and honey

Semilac 946 Jelly Honey, warm orange translucent gel polish

946 Jelly Honey

Warm orange, translucent

Semilac 945 Jelly Spritz, semi-transparent orange peach gel polish

945 Jelly Spritz

Orange-peach, translucent

Jelly Honey reads as warm autumn light rather than summer brightness. 976 Jelly Papaya and 980 Jelly Chilli give you softer and hotter variations on that direction.

4. Cherry and berry red

Semilac 592 Jelly Cherry, deep cherry red semi-transparent gel polish

592 Jelly Cherry

Deep cherry red

969 Jelly Kiss and 796 Jelly Raspberry extend the classic jelly reds, while 736 Crimson Jelly Gloss adds a semi-transparent Cat Eye version with a juicy cherry undertone. On shorter nails, a sheer red can feel softer than a fully opaque statement red.

5. Bare and unexpected cool shades

964 Jelly Nude is the quiet option when you want a clean, understated finish. Cooler shades such as 957 Jelly Green, 973 Jelly Mint and 982 Jelly Blueberry offer a less expected autumn contrast against darker clothing.

Three ways to make a sheer finish look moodier

1

Build the depth. One coat gives a tinted wash; additional coats deepen the colour while the finish remains deliberately translucent.

2

Keep the shape clean. Shorter, neat shapes can make a sheer colour feel compact and understated, while longer shapes give the translucent finish more space to show.

3

Move into Jelly Gloss. 734 Toffee, 736 Crimson and 738 Cherry Choco combine semi-transparent colour with a magnetic Cat Eye effect for more dimension.

Jelly with a magnetic effect

Jelly Gloss shades such as 734, 736 and 738 already contain a magnetic Cat Eye effect, so use a suitable magnet on the wet colour before curing. If you want to add a magnetic finish over a jelly shade you already own, a top coat such as Silver Gloss T35 gives you another route without replacing your existing colours.

Why jelly works well between appointments

Because the colour is semi-transparent, regrowth can look less visually abrupt than it does with a dense, fully opaque shade. How noticeable it is still depends on the colour, number of coats and the natural nail underneath.

For the most useful colour check, compare the shade on the natural nail where possible. Translucent colours interact with the nail underneath, so a swatch tip may not reproduce the finished manicure exactly.

Questions people ask

What are jelly nails?

Jelly nails use semi-transparent colour so the natural nail remains part of the finished look. The colour can be built with additional coats, but translucency is part of the effect.

Can you wear jelly nails in autumn?

Yes. Berry, cherry, toffee, honey and warm brown-orange shades move the sheer finish naturally into autumn, while cooler greens and blues give a more unexpected seasonal contrast.

How many coats does a jelly shade need?

It depends on the product and the result you want. One coat gives the lightest wash; extra coats build colour and depth. Follow the application and curing instructions for the specific shade you are using.

Do jelly shades cover the nail completely?

Jelly shades are designed to remain semi-transparent. If you want an opaque result, choose a full-coverage colour instead.

What is Jelly Gloss?

Jelly Gloss combines semi-transparent colour with a magnetic Cat Eye effect. Shades such as 734 Toffee, 736 Crimson and 738 Cherry Choco need a suitable magnet before curing to create the dimensional finish.
